Moodbidire: Mangalore University emerged as the first-ever champions in two categories with 186 points in the South West Zone Inter-University Athletics Championship for men and women held at the University of Physical Education and Sports, Chennai.
Mangalore University topped the men’s and women’s category with a total of 23 medals with 9 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. In the men’s category, they got the overall title with 90 points by winning 6 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals, while in the women’s category, they won 96 points with 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Out of 9 gold medals won by Mangalore University, 08 gold medals have been won by Alva’s athletes. Harish first in 10,000m and 5,000m, Hardeep first in 20km walk, Upendra Balian first in half marathon, Ritesh first in 1500m, Sneha SS first in 100m, Kevin Ashwini first in high jump, Sneha, Navami, Varsha and Keertana in 4*100 relay Team- First, Akhilesh stands first in triple jump.
Alva’s sportspersons have won 8 silver medals earned by Mangalore University.
Sachin Yadav Javelin Throw, Armol High Jump, Stylian Decathlon, Nitin Malik Hammer Throw, Poonam 5000m Run, Anjali 100m Hurdles, Sritilakshmi Long Jump, Snehalatha Yadav 1500m Runner Up.
