Social media abuzz with controversial statement

Moodabidri: KPCC general secretary, potential candidate for Mulki-Moodabidri Assembly Constituency Mithun Rai’s statement that “Udupi Krishna Mutt was given land by Muslim kings” in a ceremony at a mosque in Moodabidri has caused controversy and has led to discussion on social media.

On February 26, a program called “Nammura Masjid Noda Banni” was organized at the renovated mosque of Puttige Noorani Masjid in Moodabidri Taluk. Mithun Rai, who was the chief guest at this function, while speaking on the issue of harmony, said that this district has a history of harmony, Bappanadu Devi Olidaddu for Bappa Bari, Koragajjana Katte in Kavathari is a priest from the Muslim community.

Udupi Mutt was given land by Muslim kings. People of all religions offer prayers at Attur Church, Subrahmanya Temple, Ullala Dargah. Its video clips have gone viral on social media and discussions are going on for and against it.

A piece of a newspaper report on Pageavara Swamiji’s earlier statement that “Muslim kings gave land to build a Math” is also going viral in defense of Mithun Rai.
