Moobidire: The Jain community of D.K. and Udupi district took out a massive protest march in the city on Wednesday against the order issued by the government to make the Shree Sammeda Shikharji area of Jharkhand, the holy land of Jains, a tourist destination.
Under the leadership of Bhattarak Swamiji, thousands of Jain Samaj of Udupi district took out a silent protest march from the thousand kamba basadi premises through the main road to the administration building.
Swastishri Charukirthi Bhattarak Panditacharya Swamiji of Jain Math addressing the protestors said, Sammeda Shikharjee is a holy place for Jains, a holy land where the 24 Tirthankars have attained siddhi through penance. Every day thousands of Jains are being purified by visiting the Kshetra with devotion. The Jharkhand government’s decision to make such a sacred area a tourist destination has hurt the sentiments of a minority of Jains. Stop the oppression and protect the sanctity of the holy land. He said, “We urge the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, President and Prime Minister to withdraw the order immediately.”
