Moodabidri: Mangaluru-Karkala National Highway 169 is being made four-lane and the authorities are following the policy of delay in providing compensation to the land victims. The National Highway Land Victims Committee has decided to protest in front of the District Commissioner’s office and the Land Acquisition Officer’s office on 7th March.
This was taken up in a meeting of land victims held at Samaj Mandir on Tuesday. Chairperson of the committee, Mariamma Thomas, said that the action of the officials of the highway department to question the decision given by the state high court in favor of the three villages and appeal to the district collector is an attempt to follow a delay strategy to provide compensation to the victims.
He said that it is worrisome that following this kind of delay policy is not only causing problems for the land victims but also preventing the smooth progress of the highway work.
Struggle Committee Treasurer Ratnakara Shetty, Ashwini Naik of Todar, Jayaram Bhatt, Beluwai Sadashiva Shetty, and others spoke about the problems being faced by the officials of the highway department of Rashtika.
