Moodabidri: A unanimous decision was taken in the general meeting held at the municipal hall on Thursday to take urgent measures for drinking water system in all the wards under the municipality.
There is water scarcity in the municipal area. Drinking water in wells is drying up. The water flow in Puchhamogar Dam, which provides irrigation, is also declining. The opinion expressed by the members is that severe trouble is predicted for the next two months.
Reacting to the problem, President Prasad Kumar, Vice President Sujatha, and Standing Committee Chairman Nagaraj Pujari promised to take urgent action. He promised to drill as many bore wells as necessary and provide drinking water to the people through the existing bore wells. He directed the authorities to solve the problem immediately.
A four-storied building is being constructed near Ammanavara Basadi of Ward 9 in a space of only three and a half cents. There is a Temple pond and house wells near the Basadi. If the new building is constructed, how will the sewage be managed, the petition given to the municipality by the concerned citizens led to a discussion.
Even if the application is received, the municipal authorities have not done the task of checking or stopping the building work, member Shweta Praveen confronted Chief Shiv Nayaka on the action taken. The municipal engineer has also been informed, and I have also informed the chief officers verbally. Even after a month, no action has been taken in this regard, even though this issue was on the agenda of the meeting, the chief officers signed it without noticing. She demanded clarification on this.
This type of problem exists in many wards. No setback, no parking system, many buildings with such problems are found within the municipal limits. The members demanded that account and number should not be given to these. He wrote a letter to the district collector and instructed them to solve the problem. After the meeting, the chief officer informed the members that they will inspect the place and give a report.
Senior member of the municipality PK Thomas suggested that a file of copies of letters written to various departments and officials should be prepared and presented to the meeting on the occasion of each meeting. It was unanimously adopted and adjudged. It was agreed to implement this from the next meeting itself.
Opposition to Tax Revision:
Member Suresh Prabhu said in the meeting that there is opposition to revising the tax from 3% to 5%. Earlier there was a tax revision of 15% every three years. Revenue inspector Yasina informed that as per the government circular, now 3% is being raised every year. The chief said that if the tax revision is not done, the tax payers will be burdened. The chairman of the municipality said that a proper study will be done and it will be discussed in the next meeting.
Although the tender process for the road opposite Mangrath Complex near the main road was completed 9 months ago, the work has not started yet. Ward member Shakuntala Devadiga warned that if the work is not started soon, she will protest in front of the house of the Standing Committee President.
The President clarified that he had given instructions to the contractor several times to start the work. The members insisted that the contractor who has not started the work at the appropriate time should be blacklisted.
