Moodabidri: The Congress on Friday staged a protest and demanded the removal of the circle being constructed by the PWD department on the state highway where it meets the Venur-BC road near Mescom.

Addressing the protestors, former minister Abhay Chandra Jain said that this circle, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh with the funds of MLAs, is unscientific. Hundreds of vehicles are plying on this road every day, and accidents are likely to occur due to the large circle.

A protest has already been held and the municipality, PWD engineer, and MLA have been warned. When he appealed to the Collector, he asked for two days’ time. But nothing has progressed. Government money is being misused by MLAs for 40 percent commission. He alleged that the MLAs who are contracting work in the name of their officials do not understand the plight of the people.

I personally met the District Collector and requested to correct the unscientific circle. The Collector, who had asked for two days’ time, remained silent without taking any action. We do not idly stand by when we see the suffering of people. Abhayachandra warned that the Congress will protest in front of the district collector’s office soon.

Block Congress President Valerian Sequeira, Mahila Congress President Supriya D. Shetty, Municipal Members Koragappa, Suresh Kotyan, Suresh Prabhu, Rupa S. Shetty, Purandara Devadiga, Imayuttallah, Iqbal Karim party leaders Jaya Kumar Shetty, Chandrahas Sanil, Alvin Menez and others were there.
